![]() ![]() Since my computer is already up and running and I'm already comfortable with Linux, I won't be installing Windows. My original comment was a little misleading - I have access to Windows, but I choose not to use it. Thank you for sharing! If it's actually free and you don't have to activate it, that's a nice option for folks who don't want to, or can't afford a Windows key. Prey is a masterpiece and I'm happy to say that for me, it absolutely joins it's fellow Arkane titles in the realm of stellar narrative single player games. Picking a dedicated build is key on higher difficulties and once I did this, enemies became manageable and I was able to focus more on exploration and story - as opposed to running the other way every time I heard the growl of a nearby phantom. When you combine the weaknesses and resistances of enemies and the diverse mechanical/elemental damage that your character can deal, it's easy to get lost and end up with an ineffective set of weapons. Gameplay: At it's core, Prey is a hard game. Furthermore, after hopping on YouTube to watch the alternate endings, it turns out there are not only multiple endings as expected in an Arkane title but also countless mini-variant endings that accompany each major ending - all of which can vary based on every single decision your character makes throughout the story. Seeing the culmination of all your decisions laid out for you in the final cutscene in conjunction with your fate as the experimentee was an incredible finale to this journey. Story: As a Philosophy major, the story, themes, and decisions in Prey could easily fill a couple lectures in both metaphysics AND ethics courses. The game became so much more engaging and I was hooked. ![]() With a larger, more diverse game library under my belt in recent years, I decide to fire Prey back up with a focus on slowing things down, working out a dedicated build and getting more immersed in the lore. I ended up shelving it in a fit of rage and it became the black sheep of Arkane games for me.įast forward to earlier this month, I decided I was going to give it another shot and boy I am so glad I did. My skill points were all over the place, I was perpetually out of ammo and was having a miserable time. I had never played a survival horror(ish) game in my life up until that point and I jumped right into it trying to Rip & Tear™ my way through the place. I first picked up Prey on launch back in 2017 and to be totally honest, I hated it. From RPG mechanics to the killer story, I can't believe I slept on Prey 2017 the first time I tried it. ![]() Wow, what an absolutely incredible game from start to finish. I just finished Prey and I can't think of a better game to kickstart my first post on r/PatientGamers.
